The support forms part of Orion FT’s commitment to donate 2% of its profits to good causes. It reflects a wider business strategy focused on giving back to the communities and industries in which we work.
As a pioneer in silicon-based biostimulant technology and a leading provider of plant nutrient solutions, Orion FT works closely with farmers, growers, agronomists and horticultural professionals. Supporting organisations that protect the health, safety and wellbeing of these people is therefore especially important to us.
Giving Back Is a Core Part of Our Strategy
Orion FT develops innovative products designed to support stronger, healthier and more resilient plants. Our work contributes to more sustainable approaches across agriculture, horticulture, ornamentals, amenity and forestry.
However, a resilient industry also depends on the wellbeing of the people working within it.
Farming and horticulture can be physically demanding, financially challenging and, at times, isolating professions. People working in these industries may face long hours, unpredictable conditions, workplace risks and pressures that affect both their physical and mental wellbeing.
Our commitment to donate 2% of profits allows us to support causes that address these challenges directly. It ensures that, as the business grows, our contribution to the communities around us can grow too.
Garth Bretherton, Managing Director of Orion Future Technology, said:
“The people working across farming and horticulture are fundamental to everything we do at Orion. We wanted our charitable support to reach organisations that understand the realities of these industries and can make a meaningful difference to the people within them.
“Perennial and Yellow Wellies provide vital support in areas ranging from financial and emotional wellbeing to farm safety and education. Supporting their work through our 2% commitment is an important part of how we give something back to the industries and communities that have supported our business.”
Supporting People in Horticulture Through Perennial
Perennial is the UK’s only charity dedicated to helping everyone working in, or retired from, horticulture and their families.
Since 1839, the charity has supported people working with plants, trees, flowers and grass. Its free and confidential services help individuals facing everyday difficulties and more complex challenges involving finances, housing, health, wellbeing, employment and career development.
Perennial also provides support during major life events, including redundancy, bereavement and homelessness. Through its helpline, personalised casework, specialist services and online resources, the charity helps people access practical advice and make informed decisions about their lives.
The connection between Perennial and Orion FT is particularly meaningful. Our products and technical expertise serve growers and horticultural professionals who dedicate their working lives to caring for plants, crops and green spaces. Supporting Perennial helps ensure that these individuals have somewhere to turn when they need advice, reassurance or practical assistance.
Improving Farm Safety and Wellbeing With Yellow Wellies
The Farm Safety Foundation, widely recognised as Yellow Wellies, is an independent UK-wide charity dedicated to protecting the physical and mental wellbeing of the next generation of farmers.
Farming continues to have one of the poorest safety records of any occupation in the UK. The industry accounts for approximately 1% of the working population but 19% of worker fatalities, according to figures highlighted by the charity from the Health and Safety Executive’s 2024/25 report.
Yellow Wellies works to change attitudes towards risk-taking, farm safety and poor mental health, particularly among farmers and agricultural workers aged between 16 and 40.
Its education programmes, training, resources and high-profile campaigns help raise awareness of the challenges facing the industry. These include Farm Safety Week, which encourages safer working practices, and Mind Your Head, which focuses on mental health and wellbeing within farming.
For Orion FT, supporting Yellow Wellies is an opportunity to help protect the people responsible for producing food, managing land and sustaining rural communities. Its work aligns closely with our belief that the future of agriculture depends on a healthy, safe and supported workforce.
Supporting Stronger Industries and Communities
Perennial and Yellow Wellies were selected because their work directly benefits the people at the heart of the sectors Orion FT serves.
Both charities understand the specific challenges found within farming, horticulture and rural life. They provide relevant, accessible support while encouraging open conversations about safety, financial pressures, physical health and mental wellbeing.
Our support for these organisations forms part of a long-term commitment to responsible business. Alongside developing innovative plant nutrient solutions and promoting more sustainable growing practices, we want to contribute positively to the people and communities connected to our work.
By donating 2% of profits to good causes, Orion FT is helping valuable organisations continue their work and reach more people across the industries we are proud to serve.
